Hello and Welcome

I’m Em (she/her), a person-centred, creative counsellor offering individual and relationship therapy in York. I support people who feel different, othered, lost, or out of place to reconnect with themselves and with one another — to listen inwardly, speak honestly, and live more fully from who they truly are. Helping you come home to yourself — creatively and courageously. Therapy with me is compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgemental. You can explore your life, relationships, and challenges at your own pace — every part of you is welcome here.

Relationships — with ourselves and others — can be complex. Whether you come on your own or as part of an intimate relationship, I am here to listen carefully to your story. Together, we create space to explore feelings, understand patterns, strengthen communication, heal relational wounds, reconnect with inner resources, and help you feel more in control of your life and choices. You might feel overwhelmed, disconnected, burnt out, unsure of your direction, or tired of holding everything together alone. In relationships, you may feel stuck in repeating patterns, struggle to communicate, drift apart, or be unsure how to repair after hurt. You might be navigating identity, intimacy, cultural expectations, family dynamics, grief, or change — or simply sense that something no longer feels right. Talking therapy offers a chance to slow down, be heard fully, and make sense of your experiences — how they shaped you, how they affect you now, and how the future might look different.
Through our work, you may begin to:
  • Understand yourself more deeply
  • Discover your needs and communicate them clearly
  • Strengthen confidence and self-esteem
  • Soften your inner critic
  • Set boundaries and say no when needed
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Let go of unhelpful “shoulds”
  • Improve your relationships — including the one you have with yourself
My practice is grounded in respect for diversity. I welcome people of all genders, sexualities, relationship styles, cultures, faiths, abilities, neurotypes, and backgrounds. I work affirmingly with trans, non-binary, and gender-questioning clients, and I am committed to creating a space where difference is truly valued. You will not need to minimise yourself, translate your identity, or defend your experience. Every part of you — your identity, your story, your needs — is welcome. My practice is grounded in listening deeply, holding space for your experiences, and supporting you to explore life and relationships in a way that honours who you are. Therapy with me is compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgemental. You don’t need to perform, explain yourself perfectly, or be “less” of anything. Together, we create a safe environment where you can reconnect with yourself, make sense of your experiences, and choose what feels true. At its heart, counselling is an act of care — for you and for the people around you. It isn’t about “fixing” you, but about creating the conditions where you can hear yourself clearly, relate more honestly, and live in alignment with who you are.
When you are ready, I'm here to walk alongside you.

A little about me

I’m a friendly and creative counsellor based in York. My journey began with training in the person-centred model, focusing on providing a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore your feelings.
As a BACP-registered counsellor, I follow strict ethical guidelines to ensure my practice is safe, high quality and transparent for my clients. I love incorporating creative techniques into my therapy and seeing what this brings for clients, as it can help tap into the subconscious, allowing you to uncover and process thoughts and feelings that might not surface through conversation alone.
I've worked with a diverse range of people, helping them navigate life's ups and downs. My goal is to help you find your own answers and build a more resilient, fulfilling life. I welcome everyone, no matter your background or identity, and look forward to supporting you on your journey.
